Dr. Na’im Al-Aboudi, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, discussed areas of scientific and academic cooperation at Ankara University.
During the meeting with the university president, Dr. Najdat Onofar, in the presence of the Iraqi Ambassador to Ankara, Mr. Majid Al-Lajmawi, the Minister emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation in scientific and academic fields. He highlighted the need to develop pathways for scientific and cultural exchange, enabling both countries’ universities to engage in academic programs of mutual interest.
He called for the establishment of partnerships and collaboration between higher education and research institutions in both countries, advocating for academic visits, participation in conferences, seminars, joint research projects, scholarship exchanges, and the development of doctoral programs and scientific residencies. He noted that Iraq has launched its pioneering initiative, “Study in Iraq,” aimed at attracting international students to Iraqi universities to facilitate knowledge and cultural exchange and strengthen academic relations with countries worldwide.
The Minister extended an invitation to the president of Ankara University to visit Iraq to strengthen relations and engage with scientific institutions, gaining insight into Iraq’s experience in this field.
In response, the President of Ankara University emphasized that Turkey and Iraq share a rich cultural heritage that provides a conducive environment for further collaboration in all fields, particularly scientific and cultural. He highlighted that mutual exchange of fellowships and scholarships for students from both sides would contribute to enhancing bilateral relations. He also appreciated the Iraqi government’s efforts to foster convergence and achieve outcomes beneficial to both friendly countries.
