Karbala University achieved a competitive position in the global (webometrics) ranking in its second edition for 2024. The results of the ranking (www.webometrics. info/en/Asia/Iraq) showed that thirty thousand universities competed globally according to the indicators that measure the virtual presence of universities through their websites. The current edition witnessed the rise of the index of Iraqi universities compared to the previous edition, where Karbala University came in 17th place locally out of 126 universities, as indicated by the official website of the classification of the Supreme Center for Scientific Research in Spain.

It is worth noting that Iraq ranked first in the Arab world and seventh in the world in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2024 in terms of the number of universities participating in the 2024 edition, while Iraqi universities and colleges recorded their increasing competition in other global rankings, including the Shanghai Ranking of Subjects (Global Ranking of Academic Subjects for the year 2023, in which the University of Baghdad appeared in the specialty (Dentistry & Oral Sciences), the (QS) ranking, whose 2025 edition witnesses the presence of five Iraqi universities, the (Scimago) ranking, in which forty-seven institutions are present, the (Greenmetric) ranking, in which the number of Iraqi educational institutions increased to seventy-four universities and colleges, and the RUR ranking, in which forty-five Iraqi universities are present
