The second edition of the Iraqi Universities Debating World Cup kicks off

The second edition of the Iraqi Universities Debate World Cup kicked off at Karbala University today, with the participation of Karbala University students and students of private universities in the province.

Organized by the International Academy for Leadership and Development (IALD) in cooperation with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, the activities of the World Cup were attended by the University’s Vice Presidents for Administrative and Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Jassim Al-Barrak and Prof. Dr. Haider Mohammed.

The Assistant President for Scientific Affairs, Prof. Dr. Haider Mohammed, said that “the World Cup is a distinctive platform to promote constructive dialogue, consolidate the values of intellectual debate and create a generation that is aware of the issues of its society and able to express its opinions objectively,” adding that “the World Cup highlights the skills of young people in research and analysis and teaches them to listen and respect different points of view.

He emphasized Karbala University’s commitment to its pivotal role in preparing future leaders, encouraging students to develop their intellectual and leadership skills, and believing in the importance of dialogue as a means of positive change.

For his part, the head of the Rehabilitation, Employment and Follow-up Division at Karbala University, Dr. Mohammed Abdul Aziz, revealed “the participation of ten private universities at the level of Karbala Governorate in this year’s World Cup, pointing out that the first stage of the competition will be among the students of Karbala Governorate universities, then the qualifiers will move to participate in the competitions at the level of Iraq and conclude their competitions in Qatar, where the competition will be at the level of the Arab world.”

The President of the International Academy for Leadership and Development, Moaz Salem Abdul Rahman, explained that “the Academy seeks through the organization of this World Cup to empower Iraqi students to face challenges, pointing out that debates represent an opportunity to exchange opinions, develop persuasion skills and promote the culture of constructive dialogue, which is a free space to discover talents and enhance the spirit of cooperation and understanding among the sons of the nation.”

The International Academy for Leadership and Development (IALD) is an international organization specialized in the field of education and youth development in various fields, and has cooperation with a group of Iraqi ministries, including the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in various aspects.
