The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Abboudi, announced the creation of a new public university in Wasit, strengthening the developmental requirements of the provinces and enhancing their educational environments and specialised programmes.
This came in his speech during the opening of the first scientific forum in Wasit province, where the Minister of Education explained that the ministry has provided all the studied introductions to deal with the development requirements of all Iraqi provinces and strengthen their educational environment, pointing to the creation of more than 100 university formations at the level of universities, colleges, departments, branches and institutes, as well as giving priority to specialties and programmes that society aspires to in the fields of medicine, engineering, technology, pure science, agriculture, veterinary, administrative, economic, humanities and social sciences.
He added that attention to this track required interlocking areas of work and joint co-ordination with Iraqi provincial officials, governments and local councils, addressing challenges and laying the direct path to develop universities and enable them to achieve their goals over more than two years of ministerial responsibility.
For his part, Wasit Governor Dr Mohammed Jamil Al-Mayahi stressed in his speech during the forum that higher education in Iraq is going through a distinguished stage, pointing out that the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr Naim Al-Abboudi is the owner of pioneering achievements represented in the internationalisation of education and the attraction of international students within the Study in Iraq programme, while Wasit University President Dr Abbas Lifta Al-Aqabi pointed to the importance of the forum and the impact of the university in achieving development goals.
The first scientific forum in Wasit will include scientific and research sessions that shed light on the social and economic life of Wasit in historical times, the translation movement, culture and literature, and the most prominent scientists and celebrities.
