Karbala University hosts a dialogue seminar on the new scientific promotion guidelines

Karbala University hosted a dialogue seminar to discuss the new draft scientific promotion regulations to be adopted by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.
The seminar, organised by the Karbala branch of the Academics Syndicate in cooperation with the Faculty of Law, was attended by the university president, Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, and his assistants for administrative and scientific affairs, Prof. Dr. Jassim Aidan al-Maamouri and Prof. Dr. Haider Mohammed Imran, in addition to the head of the Academics Syndicate branch, Dr. Munir al-Daami, member of the Parliamentary Higher Education Committee, Dr. Firas al-Maslamawi, and a number of college deans, professors and employees of the university.

‘The project will undergo many amendments, including exempting humanities disciplines from the h-index,’ he said, pointing out that ’the new instructions will be postponed and will not enter into force at the present time, contrary to what has been circulated in the media.’

He added that the parliamentary education committee will continue to make the necessary amendments to the project to serve the educational process and close the doors to commercial journals.

‘The financial challenge is one of the most prominent challenges facing teachers, and universities lack the necessary laboratories that can be used for research,’ said Dr Haider Mohammed Omran, assistant to the university president for scientific affairs.

Omran stressed the importance of enhancing the status of local scientific journals that raise the university’s ranking globally.
