The Department of computer science in the faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology –University of Karbala held a webinar entitled (Apriori algorithm) presented by Zehra Najem Abdullah a lecturer in the department of computer science. The webinar discussed the Apriori algorithm and its role in the process of data mining. At the beginning, the researcher defined the technique of data mining which is the process of extracting potentially useful information and hidden knowledge from large datasets. The presenter also showed in the technique of data mining of non-automated data, we start directly from a set of original data and we attempt to analysis some of the information or hidden knowledge which is exactly what Apriori algorithm does. In addition, the presenter demonstrated the role of Apriori algorithm in mining association rule learning over relational databases to discover interesting association rules between variables in large databases. The purpose of this process is to identify the strong association rule discovered in the dataset using specific metrics. The ultimate goal for this process is to assist machine learning in simulate extracting features of the human brain. The researcher also presented the areas in which association rules are employed, such as web mining, intrusion detection systems, and continuous processing in the field of bioinformatics. At the end of the discussion, the most important research and sources that related to this topic were presented.
