The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Abboudi, affirmed the ministry’s commitment and hard work to promote and develop scientific research, international publication and postgraduate programmes.
This came in his speech at the ceremony honouring the winners of the Iraqi Flag Day in the presence of members of the advanced staff, university presidents, academics, deans of colleges and a crowd of teachers, researchers and students, where he explained that the interest in science and scientific research has been and remains the cornerstone of the performance of the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and its institutions and is the identity that dominates the work spaces and occupation of Iraqi universities and their colleges and specialised departments.
The Minister of Education added that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research has succeeded, thanks to the efforts of its specialised scientific staff, in internationalising higher education, establishing common understandings between its universities and their foreign counterparts, exchanging scholarships and research opportunities, attracting more than three thousand international students and returning international forums to Baghdad, the latest of which was the 46th session of the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils meetings, which was hosted by the University of Baghdad.
He reiterated that the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research is committed, keen and diligent to promote and develop scientific research, international publishing and postgraduate programmes, pointing out that these intensive measures will raise the level of quality and performance of academic, educational and research institutions and give the necessary impetus to the effectiveness of the teaching process.
The ceremony included a speech by the Director General of the Research and Development Department, Dr. Lubna Khamis Mahdi, and an explanation of the scientific products presented and the criteria for the awards, while the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, concluded the event by honouring the winners of the Science Day awards, which included the best university, distinguished research centre, distinguished research unit, distinguished scientific journal, distinguished university library, distinguished scientific research, distinguished voluntary group promotional work, distinguished book written or translated, distinguished patents, distinguished scientific journal, distinguished graduation project and distinguished researcher.
