The College of Computer Science and Information Technology held a memorial vigil in mourning for its student, Haider Arkan Ali, a first-year student in the Department of Computer Science, expressing deep sorrow over his passing and honoring his kind character and positive presence among his peers and instructors.

The vigil was attended by the Dean of the College, Prof.dr. Muwaffaq Kadhom Al-Hassnawi, along with a number of faculty members, staff, and a large gathering of students. The ceremony commenced with the recitation of Surah Al-Fatiha in remembrance of the deceased, followed by a speech from the Dean, in which he expressed his heartfelt condolences and highlighted the student’s admirable اخلاق and respectful conduct within the college.

The event also included a video presentation reflecting on the student’s life, character, and cherished memories, accompanied by a collection of photos commemorating his time at the college.

During the vigil, the college administration reaffirmed its solidarity with the family of the deceased, praying that Almighty God grants him His vast mercy and a place in His eternal paradise, and bestows patience and solace upon his family and loved ones.

The memorial concluded with prayers for the departed, asking God to grant him forgiveness and mercy, and to protect all from such loss.

The Dean of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, prof. dr Muwaffaq Kadhom Al-Hassnawi, accompanied by the Administrative Assistant, Asst.prof.dr Dr. Muhannad Kamil Abdulhameed, and the Head of the Computer Science Department, Asst.prof.dr Issam Hamed Abbas, conducted an inspection tour across the college’s corridors and surrounding facilities to review the progress of work.

During the tour, the Dean emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to provide a suitable educational environment for students and to enhance it through regular maintenance of the academic departments’ buildings.

The Council of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology held its regular meeting under the chairmanship of the Dean of the College, Prof.dr. Muwaffaq Kadhom Al-Hassnawi, with the attendance of the assistant deans and heads of academic departments, will discuss several academic and administrative matters listed on the agenda.

At the beginning of the session, the Council reviewed the latest developments related to the progress of the educational process, emphasizing the importance of adhering to the approved study plans and enhancing the quality of education in line with established academic standards.

The Council also discussed the college’s preparations for the upcoming examinations, directing the provision of an appropriate environment for students and ensuring the availability of all necessary requirements to facilitate a smooth examination process. It further stressed the importance of compliance with ministerial instructions and examination regulations.

In addition, the Council addressed several key topics, including the development of academic curricula, support for scientific and research activities, and encouragement of participation in conferences and academic workshops, all aimed at advancing the college’s academic standing.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council issued a set of decisions and recommendations intended to enhance both the academic and administrative performance of the college, reaffirming its commitment to providing a distinguished educational environment that serves students and keeps pace with modern developments in computer science and information technology.

The University Counseling Unit at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology / University of Karbala organized an in-person training workshop entitled “The Impact of Pollution on Community Health and Prevention Strategies,” with the participation of a number of faculty members and interested attendees.

The workshop was delivered by Assistant Lecturer Fadhil Abbas Sabah and Assistant Lecturer Doaa Abbas Rashid. It aimed to highlight the health risks associated with various forms of pollution and to examine their negative repercussions on both individuals and society. It also addressed key preventive strategies to mitigate these risks.

The workshop covered several key topics, including the different types of environmental pollution and their direct and indirect effects on human health, as well as the role of community awareness in promoting healthy behaviors. The session witnessed notable engagement from participants through questions and discussions that enriched the dialogue.

This workshop is part of a series of awareness activities organized by the College to promote health and environmental education, and to enhance awareness among students and the broader community regarding the importance of maintaining a healthy environment and achieving sustainable well-being.

The Women’s Affairs Unit at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology organized a tree-planting campaign within the college premises and its surroundings, as part of its efforts to promote environmental awareness and foster a culture of environmental responsibility among students.

The campaign witnessed wide participation from both female and male students, along with a number of faculty members and staff. During the initiative, a variety of seedlings and ornamental plants were planted across the green spaces, contributing to the enhancement of the campus environment and adding an aesthetic appeal to the area.

This campaign aims to spread awareness about the importance of maintaining green spaces and to emphasize the vital role of afforestation in reducing pollution and improving air quality. It also seeks to promote the spirit of volunteerism and cooperation among students.

The Dean of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, Dr. Muwaffaq Kazem Al-Hassnawi, honored the Accounts Manager, Assistant Lecturer Shaya Majid Radi, by awarding him the Shield of Excellence on the occasion of his retirement, in recognition of his outstanding efforts and dedicated service throughout his tenure at the College.

This honor was bestowed in appreciation of his significant contributions to the development of administrative and financial operations, as well as his active role in supporting the College’s progress and advancing its institutional goals. The Human Rights Unit at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology, in cooperation with the Subcommittee for Combating Violent Extremism Leading to Terrorism at the University Presidency, organized an awareness seminar entitled “Cyber Extortion and Violent Extremism: Legal Criminalization and Community Prevention Strategies.” The event was held in Al-Khwarizmi Hall at the college.

The seminar was attended by a number of faculty members and students. It featured presentations by specialized officers from the Karbala Security Directorate, who provided a comprehensive overview of the risks associated with cyber extortion, including the methods used to target users of social media platforms. The speakers also addressed the legal framework governing such crimes and outlined the penalties imposed on offenders in accordance with applicable laws.

In addition, the seminar examined the concept of violent extremism and its adverse effects on society, highlighting the importance of community awareness and the critical role of educational institutions in addressing and preventing these challenges. Practical guidance was also offered to students on safeguarding their online accounts and effectively responding to extortion attempts.

This initiative forms part of the college’s ongoing efforts to promote legal and security awareness among students, strengthen digital literacy, and reinforce the principles of community prevention, contributing to the development of a safer and more stable society.

Students of the College of Computer Science and Information Technology achieved a distinguished victory in the final of the third edition of the University Debates Championship after defeating the team of the College of Law in the concluding round of the competition, which witnessed strong rivalry among the participating teams.

This achievement came as a result of the outstanding performance demonstrated by the College’s students in presenting ideas, constructing logical arguments, and defending them through a scientific and methodical approach. Their performance reflected a high level of critical thinking skills, as well as strong abilities in analysis and persuasion. The team received commendation from both the judging panel and the audience for their confidence and proficiency in managing dialogue and debate. With this victory, the team will represent the University of Karbala in the University Debates Championship at the level of Iraqi universities.

This distinguished participation reflects the College’s commitment to supporting scientific and cultural activities that contribute to the development of students’ intellectual and research skills, while enhancing their capabilities in dialogue and evidence-based argumentation.

As part of the National Entrepreneurship Day activities held on March 4, 2026, the College of Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of Karbala actively participated in the Iraq Shield for Entrepreneurship and Excellence Competition 2026, which took place in the Grand Hall of the University Presidency, with the participation of several colleges and creative student teams.

The competition was attended by a specialized judging committee that reviewed the submitted projects and listened to students’ presentations explaining their innovative ideas and implementation mechanisms. The College of Computer Science and Information Technology stood out as one of the most prominent participants, as its students presented a number of distinguished technical projects reflecting their scientific capabilities and creativity in programming and technology.

The judging committee expressed its admiration for the advanced level of the projects presented by the college’s students, praising the entrepreneurial ideas that align with labor market demands and technological advancements.
