Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research discusses cooperation paths regarding peaceful uses of energy, scholarships, and grants.

The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, also head of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Authority, Dr. Naeim Al-Aboudi, held a meeting with the Director-General of the Russian state corporation for atomic energy (ROSATOM), Alexey Likhachev, to discuss areas of cooperation in the development of nuclear energy for peaceful and educational purposes.

The Minister expressed appreciation for Iraq’s participation in the International Forum (ATOMEXPO-2024) in Sochi, Russia, praising the depth of relations between the two friendly countries. He outlined the national vision of the Iraqi Atomic Energy Authority regarding the research reactor project, which is used for scientific and medical purposes, and thanked the Russian side for providing scholarships to Iraqi students in the fields of nuclear energy engineering.

On his part, the Director-General of ROSATOM, Alexey Likhachev, expressed the Russian side’s readiness to cooperate and coordinate regarding the zero-reactor, research reactor, and nuclear power plants. He also offered scholarships in nuclear energy engineering, physics, and radiation, and proposed an exchange of expertise between universities based on the understanding agreed upon by both parties.
