In conjunction with the National Afforestation Day, the University of Karbala launched a campaign to plant various types of trees in the university’s courtyards and spaces. This initiative coincides with the National Afforestation Day declared by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ al-Sudani.

The afforestation process was supervised by a committee from the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. The university’s president, Professor Dr. Basim Khalil Nayel Al-Saadi, and his assistant for administrative affairs, Professor Dr. Akram Mohsen Al-Yasiri, participated in the campaign along with a group of professors and university staff.

Before commencing the afforestation process, the university president accompanied the members of the ministerial committee on a tour of the university’s courtyards to familiarize them with the latest environmental improvement efforts undertaken by the university, including expanding green spaces and regulating water usage.

One of the major challenges faced by agriculture at the university is the high salinity of the soil. Despite this, the university administration has succeeded in increasing green areas in various parts of the campus.
