The Times Higher Education (THE) released the results of its Young University Rankings 2024, which includes universities aged fifty years or younger, with the participation of 773 universities worldwide.
The official ranking website (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2024/young-university-rankings#!/length/25/locations/IRQ/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats) revealed nine Iraqi universities in the rankings. The University of Technology led the Iraqi institutions, placed in the competitive range (301-350), followed by the University of Al-Nahrain (501-600), Al-Qadisiyah University (501-600), Anbar University (501-600), University of Babylon (501-600), University of Diyala (501-600), Middle Technical University (601+), University of Karbala (601+), and University of Kufa (601+). It’s worth noting that in the previous edition of the same ranking for 2023, four Iraqi universities were listed.
Competing universities undergo evaluation based on performance indicators used in leading global university rankings, such as THE World University Rankings, considering teaching, research, knowledge transfer, and international outlook weights.
It is noteworthy that Iraq achieved the 37th position globally in THE World University Rankings 2024, showcasing the competitive edge of Iraqi universities in the 2024 ranking, which assessed universities from 108 countries worldwide.
