The Faculty of Education for Human Sciences at Karbala University held a ceremony to honour the winners of the ‘Be a Reader’ competition in the presence of the university president, Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid Ali, his assistant for administrative affairs, Dr. Jassim Aidan Maamouri, his assistant for scientific affairs, Dr. Haider Mohammed Imran, the dean of the faculty, Dr. Hadi Al-Saidi, and a number of teachers, employees and students.
In his speech during the honouring ceremony, the university president stressed that reading is the window through which an individual looks at other cultures, and enables him to know how others view the world.
‘Reading enables a person to acquire skills and improve his communication abilities, as well as immunise him from being influenced by negative and drifting opinions,’ he said, calling on students to adhere to religious, social and moral constants.
For his part, Dr Abbas Al Ameri, representative of the supervising committee, added that the cultural competition is one of the activities that the college is keen to organise to create a positive movement in the corridors of the college.
Abeer Adnan Alwan from the English Language Department, Zainab Al-Hawra Azim from the Educational and Psychological Sciences Department, Hawra Ali Hussein from the Applied Geography Department, Fatima Hazem Kazim from the History Department, and finally Zainab Taha Issa from the Arabic Language Department won the first five places.
