Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance Unit

Introduction

The Unit of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance plays a crucial role in providing psychological and guidance support to male and female students. The primary goal of the Unit of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance is to support the comprehensive development of students, both psychologically and academically, and empower them to achieve their full potential in a healthy and supportive learning environment.

Mission

  • New student orientation at the college and providing suitable study conditions, as well as assisting in diagnosing and resolving student issues, and guiding students towards suitable academic specialties.
  • Planning, monitoring, and coordinating all psychological and social activities, events, and programs implemented at the college, whether by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research or by the college.
  • Empowering students to benefit from the services of the Unit of Psychological Counseling and Educational Guidance at the college through:
    a. Participation in workshops and awareness seminars: Organizing workshops and seminars on various topics that concern students, such as academic guidance and improving personal skills.
    b. Access to psychological support and emotional counseling: Providing psychological support and emotional counseling to students to help them overcome psychological challenges they may face.
    c. Guidance in crisis situations: Providing support and guidance to students in emergency situations or psychological pressures.

Vision

• Providing psychological support: Offering individual and group psychological support and counseling to students to help them cope with the psychological and emotional challenges they may encounter during their academic and personal journey.
• Educational guidance: Providing academic and career guidance to students regarding their academic and professional choices, by offering information about different majors, study opportunities, and professional development.
• Enhancing positive communication: Promoting positive communication among members of the university community, whether between students, or between students and faculty members and administrative staff, aiming to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment.
• Prevention of psychological problems: Raising awareness among students about the importance of mental health and how to prevent psychological problems, such as stress, anxiety, and depression, and providing guidance on how to deal with them.
• Academic success support: Providing support and guidance to students to improve their academic performance and achieve success in their studies, by developing study skills, organization, and time management.

Aims of the Division

1. Establishing committees in the academic departments to appoint representatives of psychological counseling for different stages.
2. Holding meetings for counseling officials with students of each academic stage to discuss the problems they are facing, categorize these problems into academic, psychological, or social, and devise appropriate solutions for them.
3. Communicating with students, listening to their academic problems and the difficulties they encounter, and finding effective ways to solve them.
4. Clarifying the rights and responsibilities required of students and the importance of respecting the university campus, as well as the relationship between students, professors, peers, and college affiliates.
5. Assisting students in dealing with their psychological, social, and behavioral problems appropriately.
6. Developing students’ skills and abilities to achieve the best results.
7. Involving students in activities and events organized by the unit and encouraging them to participate in volunteer work.
8. Conducting various awareness seminars and workshops.
