Second edition of Iraq-Iran Flag Week kicks off

The second edition of the Iraq-Iran Science Week, organised by the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research and hosted by Karbala University, was launched in the presence of the Iraqi Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and his Iranian counterpart Hossein Simaei and advanced cadres of the two ministries, the Governor of Karbala, Engineer Nasif Al-Khatabi, the President and members of the Provincial Council, university presidents, college deans, professors and academics from both countries.

More than 100 universities from both countries are participating in the week, with the aim of strengthening cooperation and scientific, research and academic interaction between scientific and research institutions in the two countries.

In his opening speech, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr Naim Al-Abboudi said, ‘The launch of this week is a continuation of the methodology of cooperation between the scientific and academic capitals between Iraq and Iran at various levels, and indicates a rising level of mutual understanding between the Iraqi and Iranian sides.’

‘The second edition of the Iraq-Iran Science Week will go into details in terms of exchanging scientists, professors and researchers, implementing research and technological projects, cultural exchanges and scholarships, holding specialised workshops, stimulating technical and professional cooperation, and establishing joint science and technology parks,’ he added.

‘The Iraqi government and its development institutions, especially the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, have achieved positive indicators in the area of internationalisation of education and the field of sustainable development and showed Iraq’s name in important international ranks thanks to the keen interest in scientific research and the rise of the growth index in global publishing, pointing out at the same time that the path of quality education in Iraqi university institutions has given a guarantee of access to international accreditation
