The College of Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of Karbala held on Thursday a seminar on drugs and their impact on societal peace entitled “Drugs, a crime against yourself, your family and community”. It was conducted at the Great Hall in the university presidency with the participation of the Drug Control and Community Police Directorates in Holy Karbala. The seminar was held under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Basim Khaleel Nayil Al-Sa’eedi, President of Karbala University and the direct supervision of the Dean of the College, Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdul-Hadi. It was attended by a number of the College’s tutors and officials, in addition to students of the Computer Science and Information Technology departments.
The aim of the seminar is to send a message to the community, especially the young, about the dangers of drugs and their negative effects on the family and society, educating people to combat this alien phenomenon in our society.
The seminar lectures dealt with drugs, their types, composition, and harmful effects on health, as well as their psychological and social consequences on the individual and society. It also illustrated the mechanism for identifying drug abusers. Later, the attendees’ questions were answered and finally, the recommendations were read and appreciation certificates were handed to the lecturers.
