The Master’s thesis titled “Ancient Textual Restoration Using Deep Neural Networks,” presented by the student Ali Abbas Ali Abu Al-Aub, was discussed at the College of Computer Science and Information Technology at the University of Karbala. The defense took place at 9:30 AM on Thursday, April 25, 2024, in the Al-Khwarizmi Hall, in the presence of Dr. Muwaffaq Kazem Al-Hasnawi, the Dean, along with several researchers and faculty members.

The study shed light on the significance of ancient texts as mediums for understanding ancient civilizations, including cultural, religious, and scientific knowledge.

The researcher concluded that most of these texts often suffer damage over time due to environmental factors and preservation methods. Consequently, the restoration of these texts becomes necessary for specialists and researchers in ancient sciences.

The examination committee consisted of:

  • Professor Dr. Abdul Wahab Sami Ibrahim from Al-Mustansiriya University, College of Education, serving as the chairperson.
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Ilham Mohammed Thabit Abdul Amir from the University of Karbala, College of Computer Science and Information Technology.
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Iyad Hameed Musa from the University of Karbala, College of Computer Science and Information Technology.
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Asia Mahdi Nasser from the University of Karbala, College of Computer Science and Information Technology, serving as a member and supervisor.
  • Assistant Professor Dr. Bahija Khudair Shukr from the University of Karbala, College of Computer Science and Information Technology, serving as a member and supervisor.

The defense concluded successfully, and the researcher, Ali Abbas Ali, was awarded the Master’s degree.
