Thirteen Iraqi universities have been listed in the Times Higher Education Asian University Rankings 2024, according to the results announced by the Times Higher Education. This ranking evaluated seven hundred and thirty-nine universities based on criteria related to teaching, research environment and quality, international outlook, and industry engagement.
The ranking website (https://www.timeshighereducation.com/world-university-rankings/2024/regional-ranking#!/length/25/locations/IRQ/sort_by/rank/sort_order/asc/cols/stats) showed an improvement in the performance of Iraqi universities, with thirteen educational institutions now being competitive compared to only eight in the previous year. The results indicated that universities such as the University of Technology (ranked 351-400), Al-Qadisiyah University (ranked 501-600), Babylon University (ranked 501-600), and others have made notable strides.
The evaluation criteria are based on seventeen indicators covering teaching (24.5%), research environment (28%), research quality (30%), international outlook (7.5%), and industry engagement (10%).
It is worth mentioning that Iraq achieved the 37th position globally in the Times Higher Education University Rankings 2024, with Iraqi universities competing against 2024 universities from 108 countries around the world.
