Dr. Naim Al-Abboudi, the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, affirmed the establishment of specialized programs and the provision of scholarships in the field of artificial intelligence.
This came during his speech at the opening of the International Scientific Conference organized by the University of Baghdad on artificial intelligence and the possibilities of transformation in the humanities. The Minister stated that the ministry is interested in this field, which prompted it to launch its award for artificial intelligence in scientific research and to establish specialized programs in undergraduate and postgraduate studies, as well as theses, dissertations, and researches that support this goal. Furthermore, the ministry will provide fellowships and scholarships in the field of artificial intelligence at several international universities.
He added that the rapid growth rates within the space of artificial intelligence impose concurrent entitlements and responsibilities, providing important opportunities for transformation and expansion of knowledge and procedures in all fields of science, including the humanities. He emphasized that there is no escape for those working in this sector from engaging in this arena and harnessing artificial intelligence in the stages of education, learning, and foresight, and exerting maximum efforts for collaborative work to develop tools, technologies, and research that enhance the capabilities to understand and perceive current challenges and requirements.
The opening session of the conference, which will continue for two days, included speeches by the President of the University of Baghdad and the Dean of the College of Arts, in addition to dialogues and scientific sessions involving international researchers. These sessions addressed various topics such as the applications of artificial intelligence in climate research, the electronic Babylonian library platform, challenges of philosophical discourse in the digital age, generative modeling, spectral index for dune identification using satellite images, the role of artificial intelligence in the future of scientific research, the use of artificial intelligence in contemporary Japanese literature, and the role of artificial intelligence in psychology.
