Dr. Zaid Hasan Nasrallah, Head of the Information Technology Department was hosted by Karbala satellite channel in “At Karbala Time” programme on 4/7/2021 to discuss the topic of “Weak Internet networks in Iraq, causes and solutions”. The interview addressed Internet networks and their problems at the present time. The problems pinpointed included the absence or weak oversight of authorities in charge over the Internet service presented and the pricing of Internet subscriptions. This is in addition to the lack of special legislations regulating work in this sector.

On the other hand, the use of unlicensed WiFi technology was discussed, as it is randomly distributed and run by laymen. The benefits of the national project as a basic and future infrastructure for providing Internet service were also reviewed. Optical networks are considered more reliable and better than wireless ones in providing Internet service.

The telecommunications sector is one of the important sectors as it is regarded as one of the national income sources in most countries of the world.  Investing this sector in the right way constitutes an important resource for the country in addition to being considered one of the requirements of national security.

Finally, the episode concluded that it is the government’s responsibility to legislate laws and monitor the work of Internet service providers to ensure the provision of good Internet service at reasonable prices close to international prices. Companies should also be pushed into using the latest reliable and modern technologies to provide that service.
