A webinar entitled (Digital Drugs)

The Department of Information Technology in the faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology – University of Karbala held on July 8th, 2021 a webinar entitled (Digital Drugs) presented by Dr Elham Mohamed Thabit a lecturer in the department of information technology. The webinar discussed the idea of digital drugs which also called (binaural beats; i-dosing) and their impact on the human brain. In general, digital drugs are files that can be downloaded over the internet. These files are clips tones heard through headphones in both ears, where certain frequencies are transmitted in the right ear, for example, and lower frequencies to the left ear, so the brain tries hard to unite between the two frequencies to get one level of the two sounds, this makes the brain in an unstable state, at the level of the electrical and nerve signals it sends. There are almost frequencies for each type of drug, which drives the person to hallucination and another to relax and another to focus, and so on. Thus, digital drugs are able to control the brain waves by synchronizing them with designated binaural beats. The webinar also discussed the potential risks of such types of digital files as they can be downloaded through mobile applications or through programs that run on Windows, Mac, and other audio files. At the end of the seminar, for the purpose of limiting digital drugs, several recommendations were delivered including develop and update the law to criminalize the use of these drugs, working on spreading early awareness campaigns, and working to spread awareness campaigns within schools and educational institutions.
