University of Karbala Launches Tree-Planting Campaign to Promote Environmental Sustainability

The Administrative Affairs Department at the University of Karbala has started a tree-planting and landscaping campaign across various areas and gardens on campus. This initiative aims to expand green spaces and improve the university environment as part of its commitment to sustainability and environmental standards.

The work includes preparing land for planting by adding layers of fertile soil and laying down turf (grass), along with installing modern irrigation systems to ensure efficient and sustainable watering.

A wide variety of trees have been planted, including Washingtonia, Albizia, and Acacia, in addition to a selection of climate-resistant flowers that can thrive in Iraq’s tough weather conditions.

The campaign also includes furnishing several gardens with benches for students and installing nighttime lighting to make these areas suitable for student activities at all hours.

These efforts are in line with the directives of the University President, Prof. Dr. Sabah Wajid, who emphasized the importance of providing a green, sustainable campus environment for both students and academic staff.
