The Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naeem Al-Aboudi, has announced the launch of the third edition of the “Study in Iraq” program for the academic year 2025–2026, aimed at admitting international students to Iraqi universities.

In a speech delivered in the presence of representatives from international organizations, Arab and foreign diplomatic missions, parliamentary figures, the President of the Iraqi Academics Syndicate, and senior ministry officials, Dr. Al-Aboudi stated that the Ministry and its affiliated universities are committed to implementing strategic projects that place Iraqi higher education on a global trajectory and align it with international academic standards.

He emphasized that the third edition of the program includes an ambitious plan offering over 16,000 scholarships. These scholarships aim to attract the largest possible number of international students, covering a diverse range of academic fields and offering broader opportunities for scientific and cultural exchange.

Dr. Al-Aboudi also directed the establishment of the “Study in Iraq” International Students Association, declared April 30 as the International Student Day, and stressed the importance of practical training and the development of Arabic language programs for non-native speakers.

On behalf of UNESCO, Dr. Tap Raj, Head of Education and Acting Director of the UNESCO Office in Iraq, congratulated the Ministry on launching the third edition of the program. He praised Iraq’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its educational heritage by welcoming international students from around the world to its universities and academic centers. He noted that these students will help write a new chapter in Iraq’s long-standing story of resilience and renewal.

The launch ceremony featured speeches and presentations by the Director of the Department of Scholarships and Cultural Relations, the Presidents of the University of Baghdad and the University of Anbar, and two international students. The event concluded with the honoring of distinguished universities and a commemorative group photo with international students.
