In Cooperation with the European Union Mission, Minister of Higher Education Announces the Establishment of University Units Dedicated to the Erasmus+ Program and Reaffirms Commitment to Advancing International Partnerships

The Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, in cooperation with the European Union Mission in Baghdad, organized the National Erasmus+ Day, hosted by the University of Baghdad from 8–9 September 2025.

In his address during the event, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Naim Al-Aboudi, emphasized that cooperation programs with the European Union represent a vital space for advancing higher education and scientific research. He noted that these programs provide faculty members with opportunities to enhance their expertise and expand their research fields, enable students to engage in multicultural learning experiences, open wide intellectual horizons for researchers, and allow administrative staff to acquire modern organizational skills in university management and institutional governance.

The Minister further affirmed that the Ministry has established specialized formations to follow up on Erasmus programs and has approved the creation of dedicated units within every Iraqi university to serve as active contact centers. These units are designed to build upon international partnerships and translate them into educational and research projects that contribute to strengthening the standing of Iraqi universities within the global academic landscape.

The National Erasmus+ Day also featured a scientific presentation by Deputy Minister Dr. Haider Abdul Zahid on academic cooperation and internationalization through Erasmus+, as well as a speech delivered by Deputy Head of the European Union Mission in Baghdad, Mr. Adam Jansen. The event concluded with the recognition of several Erasmus experts and distinguished international academic figures.
